Well, here we are again parents, its back to school time for many of us and with that comes the need to get back into a good sleep routine and I’m not just talking about for the kids. We are talking earlier mornings and new routines to get used to. Not getting enough sleep effects are ability to remember things. Not to mention, we pretty much suck at everything when we are tired. So I’ve compiled a list of 5 Drug Free Things to Do When You Can’t Sleep.
#1 Read A Book
Find that book that you always have a difficult time making it through. Yep! That’s the one that you want to pull out when you can’t sleep. Although reading activates the brain, a boring book can make you fall asleep.
If you do wake up in the middle of the night and can’t fall asleep within twenty minutes, try reading near a dim light. Anything brighter than dim could stimulate your senses and make you more alert than before.
Not only is reading a good way to relax, but it can also help put the previous events of the day behind you.
# 2 Drink Warm Coconut Milk
I know this sounds a little premature but warm milk seems to do something psychologically that makes us calm and drowsy. It may have something to do with the fact that it takes us back to our infancy, but coconut milk is a non dairy substitute and actually very healthy. Coconut milk typically has several nutritional advantages and serves as a better source of several essential nutrients like niacin, iron and copper.
Mix 2 cups coconut milk; 1 teaspoon turmeric, whisk to combine and warm in a sauce pan until it starts to bubble. Not only does it help you sleep better but it also eases your digestive system. You can also try the warm coconut milk with honey and a sprinkling of nutmeg. Sip slowly and enjoy your sleep. You can also give the kids some.
#3 Listen to Nature Sounds
