What if you’d Love Yourself Like You Get Paid to Do It!
What if you were to love yourself like it was your job? How much effort would you put into it? Would it be more or less? Would you spend time thinking about how much better you could be at it?
Would you make sure you present it to yourself in the best way possible? Would you go to school to learn how to become better at it? Would you strive for a promotion in it?
We don’t often put very much effort into ourselves as women besides birthdays, vacations, etc. If you’re a mother what I just said above is even more prominent because we put our children first.
Just like anything I’ve shared over the past week I want you to put this topic up for special consideration. How can you love yourself like you get paid to do it?
The same thing doesn’t work for everyone, but here are a few tips to love yourself like you get paid to do it.
Treat yourself with kindness – Be kind to yourself. We can be so mean, and critical and harsh on ourselves. We utter defaming comments in casual conversations, but its time to cut it out. Treat yourself with the kindness that you would treat the most precious person in your life.
Forgive Yourself – If we have trouble forgiving ourselves for past mistakes, its going to be a little bit harder forgiving anyone else. Forgive yourself first. I’ve had to this before. I had to give myself for the mistakes I’ve made in naivety. Then I realized that I had the key to release myself from bondage.
Stop being your biggest critic and start being your biggest cheerleader.
Put Yourself First – “You are the representation of God in your life,” Iyanla says. “And you put you last and put other people ahead of you. Which means you’re putting other things and other people ahead of God in your life.”. See the rest of it below.
Invest in yourself – Education, Books, Professional Clothing, etc. I remember someone saying this to me and I would never look at investing in myself the same. Investing in yourself is a display of love and respect for yourself.
Create the life that you want – If you want to travel, work toward creating that life. If you want to do research, sing, act, teach, etc. Create the life that you want.
Love your imperfections – Ladies I wish I could yell this every morning at everyone I know. Get so comfortable with your imperfections that you are forced to reconcile with yourself.
Be attentive to your own needs – This could be in terms of your physical body, your mental health or even your need for encouragement, sleep, or alone time.
Take care of your health – Eat right, exercise, breath deeply, address the concerns, be your own health advocate. Ask your doctor questions and if you don’t get answers, go somewhere else. No seriously! I’ve been there and there’s nothing more frustrating than trying to tell your doctor what you’re experiencing and feel ignored.
Take care of your skin – exfoliate and drink plenty of water. Makeup has nothing on freshly exfoiliated skin that reveals fresh and hydrated cells.
