Healthy tends to taste so much better when it actually tastes good. There’s this common myth that the good stuff doesn’t nearly taste as good as the stuff that’s not good for you. I have to admit that I believed this as well. How could anything healthy taste as good as macaroni and cheese or even chocolate cake, you know? Well, there are quite a few things that taste pretty darn amazing and they ARE healthy options. There are so many foods that can still have the taste of indulgence, and the feeling of health.
As of lately I’ve been digging these pumpkin sheet cake slices from this vegan restaurant that I must admit taste way better than many sheet cakes that I’ve tasted. Well, except for my aunt’s famous recipe. Everything else, comes after. The point is, I never thought that I would enjoy something that was considered better for me.
Then there are sweet snacks that you can take on the go. I know this might sound pretty basic but apples, peanut butter and raisins are the perfect healthy snack that still have the taste of indulgence. So sweet with a hint of salty and extremely easy to prepare and pack each day.
Next, I found these wonderful little MuffinTops called VitaTops at Target in the freezer section. You can find yours at your nearest Publix, Kroger, Stop & Shop, or Shop-Rite locations. Not only are they healthy, but you can best believe that they taste pretty darn good. Plus the kid approves and that doesn’t happen very often with my picky eater. I’m always trying to sneak healthy ingredients in on him, but this is one he actually didn’t even wait on me to fix on his own.
Another thing to consider when it comes to healthy indulgence are fruit pops, or fruit smoothies. Grab some of your favorite fruits and even veggies – blend them up and viola. Enjoy the sweetness all the while getting the benefits of the leafy greens you mixed in.
What I’ve found is that the easiest way to stay consistent with healthy food options is by being prepared. Go to the store, grocery shopping and take advantage of items like VitaTops that come in all assorted flavors. At the end of the day, you define the best healthy for you and for me, I’d still like to have my cake and eat it too. Don’t you?
